Members of the Month – December
This months “member of the month” actually goes to our fantastic trio – Darryl, Liz and Ally. They were nominated by both Lukas and Fabian for their ongoing commitment to training despite various injuries, and their constant strive for improvements in their training. Not only do they train with a personal trainer, but this little group regularly come in together several times a week and run through their own sessions!
What initially prompted you to start training with Chodat fitness?
Darryl: I was encouraged by my wife to consider this after we both felt that I was losing condition. The clincher was a diagnosis of osteopenia which meant I needed to start resistance training to stop or reduce the rate of bone loss.
Liz: Fifteen years ago I purchased 10 PT training sessions with Lucas for my eldest son’s 18th birthday. Lucas was such an enthusiastic trainer for David that it was natural when I was looking to get back into exercise I immediately looked to joining Chodat. Initially I joined the Monday morning group class until an injury to my knee. That was 4 1/2 years ago and since then have had PT training at the Innovation Campus gym twice a week.
Ally: I began training with Fabian to rehabilitate from a knee injury & following a diagnosis of osteopenia and arthritis.
What is your current goal, or next mini goal you are looking to achieve? What’s your biggest achievement so far?
Darryl: Together with Lukas, we have managed to slow my rate of bone loss and avoid the need for medication. This is an ongoing project along with the goals of optimising our physical and mental health into the future.
Liz: To be as fit and as healthy as I possibly can. With regular training I have improved my strength and fitness to the point where I can now participate in the running in Monday classes without pain in my knees.
Ally: It’s almost bikini season…..Improvements in my fitness, strength and energy levels. Minimal knee pain is an added bonus.
What do you enjoy most about training?
Darryl: Without exception, every training session with Lukas is different. This variety, coupled with the social interaction of everyone at the gym and the sense of achievement is very rewarding (plus the added reward of a big chocolate protein shake afterwards!)
Liz: The social aspect and how you feel after you have finished a particularly hard session. A sense of accomplishment.
Ally: Training with have Fabian is motivating, challenging & a sweaty business. Our chats are pretty interesting too. We cover a vast array of topics each week – some serious & health related and some just hilarious!
How has your lifestyle changed?
Darryl: We regularly don’t look for the closest car park, or take the escalator in day to day life. We also eat more wisely and drink less.
Liz: We are less inclined to be sedentary – we take the stairs rather than the lift. We are also more conscious of the food we eat
Ally: I still walk regularly but have now incorporated gym sessions into my day as a non negotiable activity. Going to the gym is now how I like to start my day.
What is one piece of advice you would like to give to others just starting out?
Darryl: Don’t be intimidated about attending a gym – there are plenty of people there just like you. Once you are in a routine it becomes an enjoyable part of day to day life.
Liz: Try a class where you will get the PT as well as the social benefits!
Ally: Give training with Chodat Fitness a go- you won’t regret it!
Congratulations guys! Keep up the great work!
