Do You Suffer From Muscle Cramps?

Muscle cramps are caused by two main reasons, firstly, the release of electrolytes from sweating during activity and secondly, these cramps are also brought on by premature fatigue.

There are a number of ways we can avoid muscular cramping:

  • Train specifically for your race. Cramps will happen when you push yourself harder than your body is used to. preparation is key.
  • If you get a cramp rest and try to stop any movement on that specific group of muscle fibres, most cramps won’t last any longer than 3-5 minutes.
  • Stretch lightly. Aim to stretch the muscle lightly to trigger the brain to get the muscle to relax.
  • Keep hydrated. This includes both water both before during and after the event, as well as electrolytes during and after the event.

Adhering to these above factors will definitely help reduce your potential for cramps and allow you to continue the sports and exercises you love to do.
